We provide a comprehensive surveying service of building services plant and equipment to determine condition, efficiency and life expectancy; also, maintenance regimes to ensure compliance with current legislation and good practice. We will monitor and audit the existing regime and provide advice on how it can be improved. Where necessary, we can produce maintenance plans and obtain competitive tenders for servicing contracts and any recommended upgrades or improvements.
There has been a large volume of legislation and regulations in recent years, which impose many, often complex responsibilities on building owners and operators. We offer a building health-check service to advise clients of their obligations, assess whether they are meeting them and put in place action plans to address any shortfall.
Commercial kitchen grease extract systems present particular hazards due to the potential for the accumulation of grease, which forms a hidden combustion load.
The Health & Safety Executive and industry and insurance guidance and regulations stipulate that kitchen extract systems should be kept clean to minimise fire and other risks.
Neil Wilson Consultants provide TR19/NAAD21 auditing and compliance services to mitigate; reducing the potential for duct fires, which can be costly and disruptive to business operations. In addition, we provide 2D perspective Schematic drawings for all surveys to highlight direction of travel to aid Fire Services locate systems in case of emergency. Evidence of a robust programme of auditing will also potentially reduce insurance premiums.
Neil Wilson Consultants provides assistance with energy compliance requirements regarding EPC's, including improvement plans. Our nationwide coverage and complete end to end service ensures that our clients get the very best advice, including options and solutions for improving ratings.
TM44 inspections of Air Conditioning Systems need to be carried out every five years to comply with current legislation. The TM44 inspection includes evaluation of the cooling requirements of the building, system capacity and overall efficiency, as well as recommendations on how to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions of your aircon systems. They often save you money by reducing energy consumption, as well as ensuring you avoid potential fines for non-compliance.
Fats, oils and grease (FOG) disposal regulations have been put in place to reduce the impact that fats, oils and grease have on our drainage systems and the environment.
FOG can accumulate in pipework resulting in a reduction of flow through pipes and lead to reduced flow and huge blockages that have a major impact on the infrastructure and local residents. It is important to note that FOG issues are not down to one particular type of cooking style, fats and oils are derived from meats, fish, dairy products and almost all types of preparation and cooking.
There are laws and regulations to which all commercial kitchens must adhere, including: -
· Water Industry Act 1991
· The Building Regulations 2000 – Drainage and Waste Disposal
· Environmental Protection Act 1990
· Animal By-Products Regulations EC
· Food Safety Act 1990
Neil Wilson Consultants have considerable experience in providing FOG audits and developing grease treatment strategies; including, working with UK water authorities to achieve compliance.
With an established background in the food service sector, Neil Wilson Consultants provide comprehensive project management services, from initial survey through to handover. We work closely with our clients to ensure that all of the different technologies and trades merge into one functional, efficient building - and all within the constraints of budget, time and quality.

Legionella is a bacteria that can be found in any water system including systems with or without cold water storage tanks. There are many reasons why Legionella grows in a water system, these include: areas of little use allowing water to stagnate, temperatures between 20-50°C, nutrients such as debris, limescale, foreign bodies or materials that encourage growth.
In order to comply with the Health and Safety Commission Approved Code of Practice L8 ACOP HSG 274 (Legionnaires’ Disease, The control of Legionella bacteria in water systems), companies are under a legal obligation to minimise and control the risk of legionellosis by:
· Identifying and assessing the sources of risk exposure
· Implementing and managing precautions
· Recording all related actions
· Appointing a person to be managerially responsible
We can help you to assess and manage these risks and ensure that you comply with your legal requirements.
